Heritage Hospitality
The house dates from 1857 originally and was a Parochial house for some years while the original church was on the grounds of the house.
The Bed and Breakfast was open for 12 years by Danny Doherty and his wife and family and he built the beautiful extensions out either side of the house. The building was maintained beautifully along with the surrounding sprawling gardens, perfect for wedding photos!

Rooms designed for every journey
The Old Parochial House offers 6 rooms in total. All rooms are en suite and we have a variety of room types available.
Room 1 is a family room with a double and a single bed and we have cots available if necessary. This room is our only room on the ground floor and it is right next to the sitting room for guests. The sitting room has a TV, DVD player and an Xbox to suit your family’s needs.
Room 2 and 3 are our double rooms upstairs from the dining room. Room 2 has 2 windows; one overlooking the stunning views of Inch Island and the other looks straight into our protected forest. Room 3 has a mix of the old house and the newer extension that is noticeable from the wide windowsill in the bathroom.

Our professional team of cleaners work to make sure that every guest has a pleasant stay with us.
All rooms are equipped with fresh towels, toiletries and water bottles are left in your room.
Wifi is available throughout the house.
Room 4 is our only twin room and is facing the back of the property so is a very peaceful, quiet room. We can offer this room with single occupancy at a cheaper price.
The main staircase opposite the entrance brings guests up to our 5th and 6th rooms, the 5th room is our “blue room” or “Inch view suite” and the room opposite is the “Swilly suite”. These rooms share a balcony between them and guests are welcome to enjoy the views from the balcony overlooking the beautiful Inishowen right out to the horizon over the Atlantic ocean with Fanad and Dunree either side.

Wake up to something wonderful
On weekends we cook a hot breakfast for guests. The typical Ulster or Derry Fry is served up with all the local products we can source directly from the farms. We use White Oaks Acorn Farm market that has a stall at Burt on Friday mornings to buy products as freshly as possible. Inishowen eggs, locally grown tomatoes and fresh fruit mainly but we also purchase local honey.
We also have a continental buffet of cereal, granola, greek yogurt, fruit yogurts and brown and white bread and a toaster in the dining room for your convenience.
Tea, coffee, apple, orange and cranberry juice or water or milk is also available.
The Derry Fry:
Key components of a traditional Derry/Ulster fry include:
Serving: Frequently served with a strong cup of tea.
The Breads: The defining element is fried soda bread and potato bread (sometimes called fadge). In our family home we always had the soda bread toasted so we prefer to only fry the potato bread for our guests.
The Meats: Pork sausages, back bacon (rashers), and sometimes black or white pudding.
The Eggs: Fried eggs, typically served with a runny yolk.
Optional Extras: Fried tomatoes, mushrooms, or, less traditionally, beans.
Vegetarian sausages (Linda MC Cartney ) and gluten free hash browns available also. We cater for all dietary needs. We provide oat milk and lactose free milk options for tea and coffee.
If you are lucky and the avocados are in season we may be able to provide our special “The Avocado” Avocado smash with eggs on local sourdough toast! Add bacon or halloumi with sriracha sauce! (chefs favourite breakfast!)

I’m a proud Derry native and was educated in the city alongside Lisa McGee and many of the real-life inspirations behind the characters in the acclaimed series Derry Girls. Earlier in my career, I spent several years living and working in Madrid before returning home to raise my family in Derry. I currently teach French and Spanish in Buncrana and am fluent in both languages. I also speak Irish and have conversational knowledge of German and Arabic. I’m delighted to welcome guests to The Old Parochial House and hope you enjoy a wonderful stay in our beautiful corner of the country.
